Day 99: Failed Pursuit

We have taken over the dorm room of this nice, and luckily empty hostel.

The morning was spent meeting with Katherine, Vivian, and Connor over WeChat. These meetings are much easier now that we are only connecting from two different countries. Before, we once had one of these meetings from three different continents and across five different time zones.

Afterward, we attempted to go to the Silk Road Museum. This was an ordeal in itself, as it is not near anything. To get there by public transportation would have required a train to a bus. So instead we settled on the more expensive taxi option. Immediately upon getting into the taxi, he began driving us to the nearest tourist attraction, which was in the exact opposite direction. We continually told him where we wanted to go and he just nodded while he drove on. We finally insisted that he was going the wrong way and he pulled around. Finally at the museum, we discovered that it was closed for the winter. We got back into the taxi and returned to where we started. The taxi driver meanwhile expressed his good fortune, over the radio, at our now racked up meter. With a feeling of defeat, we returned to the hostel to get ourselves prepared for our border run journeys to follow.
